The local dentist came to visit the ashram yesterday. It’s the day we fear each year. Yes even wise, old Swamis still have their fears and apprehensions you know.
His Holiness Sri Twangybanjo is just terrible with the dentist. He says he has a really bad gag reflex. You should hear some of the gags he comes out with when the dentist has been.
His Holiness said to me, “Swami C, I think the dentist was feeling sad yesterday, he looked really down in the mouth. I’ve been to see him so many times now that I know the drill. And he really gets on my nerves that dentist, he’s got a very strange flossify on life but regardless when he comes to see us it can be very full filling. ”
I said “His Holiness, you really do have a very bad gag reflex. It’s absolutely awful, you must stop.”
His Holiness smiled his big grin and said “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” and then he wandered back to his room. He was happy because the dentist had given him a sticker for being a good boy.
The dentist’s visit really got me thinking about Truth Decay. It is a problem rife in society today. If you don’t brush, rinse, spit and floss (metaphorically and spiritually speaking of course) then your truth will rot away.
When Mary Poppins sang that ‘a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’ she was spot on but she never mentioned the fillings and root canal treatments that might follow. You see we fill ourselves full of all this sweet and sugary stuff like the internet, computer games, television programmes, films and basically anything that will help disguise or distract us from those nagging, existential questions that pull at the root of us. And there’s nothing essentially wrong with any of this so long as we are aware of what is going on and make sure we give our TRUTH a jolly good clean each day and ensure our flossify remains healthy.
For this I recommend meditation and you can read a lot more about this in the coming weeks as His Holiness Sri Twangybanjo posts more on this subject. We will also provide you with some FREE MP3’s of some very special meditation music that has been made for us by the wonderful boys in the band STUFF. You can check them out here.
Meditation can be the toothpaste for your soul and help eradicate truth decay.
